Stunt Driver Gets Impaired Charge

(TOWN OF PENETANGUISHENE, ON) – On Friday January 6, 2016 at approximately 12:34 a.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) followed a motor vehicle that was driving erratically and exhibiting signs of impairment on Edward Street in Penetanguishene, ON.

The vehicle stopped at a residence on Sulky Drive in Penetanguishene, ON at which time officers spoke to the driver and determined that the male driver was operating it while under the influence of alcohol. The male was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment for further tests. As a result of further investigation the male driver Mikhael Jean-Joel LAURIN (age 23) of Penetanguishene, ON has been charged with:

Race a Motor Vehicle – Stunt Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Driving While Ability Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample Alcohol/Blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and further had his vehicle towed and impounded.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on January 19, 2017 in Midland, ON.
