Stormont Dundas Press Releases

(North Glengarry) – On January 28, 2017 at approximately 8:53pm, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Main Street in the Town of Alexandria, North Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated that a pick-up truck had collided with an unattended parked vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle was located a short time later and the adult male driver arrested.

Jean JOANETTE (41) of North Glengarry Township is charged with;

– Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired

– Driving a Motor Vehicle With More Than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in Blood

– Fail to Remain (Highway Traffic Act)

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on February 8, 2017.

DRUGS SEIZED

(South Glengarry) – On January 27, 2017 at approximately 1:28pm, an OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) officer intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401, South Glengarry Township. The stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana from an adult male passenger in the vehicle.

Conal TOPPING (18) of Burlington, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on March 8, 2017.

(South Glengarry) – On January 27, 2017 at approximately 1:29pm, an SD&G OPP officer intercepted a vehicle on Kilkenny Crescent, South Glengarry Township. The stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana from an adult male driver of the vehicle.

Jason KENNEDY (41) of Cornwall, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on March 8, 2017.

DOMESTIC INVESTIGATION

(South Glengarry) – On January 28, 2017 at approximately 2:32pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a domestic situation at a residence on Paragon Road, South Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated than an altercation between an adult and his spouse resulted in the female being assaulted and confined to a room. Further information revealed previous similar incidents. While in custody, the suspect became aggressive and assaulted officers by throwing items at them (cups of water).

A 32-year-old male was arrested and is charged with;

– Assault – Spousal (2 counts)

– Forcible Confinement (2 counts)

– Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon (2 counts)

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 counts)

He was held in custody pending a court appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall. His name is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.

HARASSMENT

(North Glengarry) – On January 28, 2017 at approximately 11:03am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a property on Lochiel Street in the Town of Alexandria, North Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated that an adult male had harassed two (2) adult females over a period of time.

The 25-year-old from North Glengarry Township was arrested and is charged with;

– Criminal Harassment (2 counts)

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria on March 8, 2017.

CAR VS TRAIN COLLISION

(South Glengarry) – On January 27, 2017 at approximately 4:59pm, SD&G OPP officers responded to a report of a collision at a railway crossing from a private drive near Tyotown Road, South Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated that a passenger vehicle had become stuck on the tracks while crossing and was struck by a westbound passenger train. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle to safety. No injuries resulted. The crossing at Boundary Road remained closed for a period of time as emergency personnel tended to the scene.

EXCESSIVE SPEEDS

(Stormont/Dundas) – Over the past weekend, SD&G and HSD OPP officers conducting speed measuring enforcement in Stormont & Dundas Counties intercepted the following vehicles for traveling at excessive speeds. In all stops, the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s permit seized for seven (7) days in accordance to policy.

– January 29, 2017 – 12:06pm (Highway 401-South Dundas); vehicle stopped travelling 162km/h (100km/h zone). Male driver from Brampton, Ontario charged accordingly.

– January 29, 2017 – 10:10pm (Highway 401-South Stormont); two (2) vehicles stopped travelling in tandem at 175km/h (100km/h zone). One male driver (21) from York, Ontario and a male (19) from Vaughan, Ontario charged accordingly.
