(South Stormont) – On February 8, 2017 at approximately 1:32am, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a two (2) vehicle collision on Highway 401, South Stormont Township. Investigation indicated that a tractor-trailer unit had collided with another and did not remain at the scene (no injuries resulted). The unit was located by officers and failed to comply with instructions to stop while police vehicle lights were activated. The vehicle was successfully intercepted a short distance away. A check of the adult male driver revealed he was under the influence of alcohol. Upon arrest, the suspect became resistant and threatened officers.
Manjeet SINGH (46) of Lasalle, Quebec is charged with;
– Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol
– Fail or Refuse to Provide a Sample
– Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
– Resist Peace Officer
– Uttering Threats
– Fail to Stop at Scene of Collision
– Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
He was held in custody pending a court appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.
STORM RELATED INCIDENTS – RESULTS
(SD&G) – The adverse weather received yesterday (February 7, 2017) and overnight across the United Counties resulted in several traffic related incidents. SD&G OPP officers responded to a total of 35 (Stormont-11, Dundas-9, Glengarry-15) calls for service consisting of collisions, vehicles in ditches/median and alarms. Minor injuries resulted in a few of the incidents including a commuter bus involved in a single vehicle collision on County Road 31 (north of County Road 43) at approximately 6:30am today (February 8, 2017). Two (2) adult passengers received minimal injuries.
Adverse conditions remain present – Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously and be aware of officers and tow operators at various scenes removing vehicles involved…their lives depend on it!!
