STOP SIGN THEFT ENDANGERS LIVES – POLICE CONTACTED AFTER SIGNS REMOVED

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a theft at a Cedar Drive, Turkey Point, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Thursday, August 14, 2014 at approximately 12:00 a.m., police received a call from a concerned resident after noticing that three youths had removed stops signs at Cedar Drive and Reserve Street. This intersection is controlled by 4 way stop signs at the intersection.

Street sign theft occurs when street signs are stolen, often to be used as decorations. Sometimes considered to be a prank, the theft is often costly and inconvenient. This is extremely dangerous to the motoring public and could have caused a serious or even fatal collision for anyone not familiar with the roadways in Norfolk County.

The three youths are all being described as mid to late teens, wearing shorts and t-shirts. Police are currently reviewing video footage in the area in an attempt to identify those responsible.
