STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED – Arrests Made

(CALEDON, ON) – On April 5, 2014, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 10, north of the Village of Caledon. The officer observed a Nissan travelling southbound at a high rate of speed. The officer determined that the vehicle was being operated at 113 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Subsequently, the officer activated the cruiser’s emergency equipment and the driver of the vehicle attempted to evade police by continuing to travel at a high rate of speed operating the vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway. The driver of the vehicle made an abrupt turn on to Mistywood Drive and fled the area on foot.

Officers confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Brampton on March 15th and reported to the Peel Regional Police Service.

Officers located the vehicle on Mistywood Drive and located the passenger who was attempting to flee. The passenger attempted to mislead the investigation by providing false information to the officers. Subsequently, she was arrested. A search of the area for the driver of the vehicle resulted in locating him at a local convenience store.

In conclusion, Sheldon MAUDLIN, 22, of Brampton was arrested and charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Flight while pursued by a Peace Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Highway Traffic Act of Ontario offences.

Dakota Thomas, 18, of Shelburne, was arrested and charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Obstruct a Peace Officer and a Highway Traffic of Ontario offence.

The driver was held in custody and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on April 6th, 2014.

The passenger was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on May 15, 2014.
