(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is issuing another warning to the person or persons responsible for illegally and wilfully erecting barbed wire, creating a dangerous condition which could result in serious bodily harm or death, after officers discovered a second location where barbed wire had been erected.
Last Monday, January 25, 2016, barbed wired was discovered on Crown Land located in the area of Grey Rd. 31 and Road 57D in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. As a result, a media release was issued warning those responsible in erecting the wire and also to snowmobilers and other trail users to use caution.
At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016, officers patrolling the area discovered a single strand of barbed wire erected on either side of the gate at the entrance to the Grey County Forest Management area located on the Osprey-Blue Mountain Townline and the 4th Line in the Town of the Blue Mountains. The same sign found on Crown Land was used on the Grey County land which read, “Snowmobile Trail Closed” Snowmobiles Stay Off to Avoid Prosecution. Caution – Beware of Wire Barriers on Closed Trails …. Rob Roy LOA, 27 December 2015”.
Officers removed the wire for public safety and notified Grey County officials.
It is unknown when the barbed wire was erected and if there are other locations affected, therefore, Grey County OPP ask all trail users, especially snowmobilers, to be extra vigilant and use extreme caution.
