(SPRINGWATER TOWNHIP, ON.) – On February 17, 2017 at approximately 1:20 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Springwater Fire Department and the Simcoe County Paramedic Service responded to a collision involving a motorized snow vehicle and a train.
An initial OPP investigation revealed that a motorized snow vehicle operated by a 52 year old male was northbound on Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) Trail B112 when it collided with a train that crossed the trail. The operator of this motorized snow vehicle was transported to hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced deceased there.
Deceased is Jeffrey HUMMEL 52 years old from Thornton, Ontario.
The above portion of OFSC B112 Trail has been closed by Police to aid in this investigation that is being assisted by members of Central Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) unit.
