SNOWMOBILE PATROL OVER THE WEEKEND

(NOTTAWASAGA, ON)- Over the past weekend, the Nottawasga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted motorized snow vehicle (MSV) patrol ensuring that the snowmobile trails were safe for everyone’s enjoyment.

In total, there were 296 MSV’s checked for compliance, seven provincial offences notices issued and five R.I.D.E. checkpoints set up over the weekend.

On February 7, 2014 Police conducted speed enforcement in a number of locations within the Nottawasaga area and issued several provincial offence notices’ for speeding on our local trails.

Police also investigated a Trespass to Property Act call, where snow machines were crossing private property. Remember that you must have the permission of the property owner to take your snowmobile on their property unless you are on a designated trail. If you do not have permission, you run the risk of trespassing on private property. The fine for trespassing on conviction can be up to $2000.

Over the weekend, Nottawasaga OPP Officers conducted mobile trail enforcement, speed enforcement, R.I.D.E and conducted speed enforcement on multi use trails that community members use for walking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.

Police will be conducting regular patrols and over the Family Day weekend as well ensuring that the trails continue to be safe for everyone’s use.
