(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 28-year-old male from Bluewater will be making a trip to criminal court in October following his arrest for Driving with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. Just after 4:00 p.m. on August 30, 2016 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed the driver of a silver Honda sedan fail to stop for a stop sign located at the intersection of Colina Street and Catherine Street.
The officer activated his emergency lights and pulled the driver over on Colina Street. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer noted the driver had been consuming alcohol.
A roadside screening test was performed which resulted in the driver registering a fail. He was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 28-year-old Shawn THOMPSON from Bluewater has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Driving While Under Suspension, Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop, Drive with Liquor Readily Available and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card.
He was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 3, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
