On the 19th of January 2015 members of the Barrie Police Crimes Against Person Unit and Barrie Internet Child Exploitation Unit, were acting on information received when they executed a search warrant at a north end residence. The police while executing the warrant also located the suspect within residence. A 48 year old Barrie male was arrested and is facing criminal charges. After the male was transported from the home, police began their search. Several computers and devices capable of storing computer data were seized from the house.
The male was charged with the following offences:
Sexual assault Section 271
Sexual Interference Section 151
Invitation to Sexual Touching Section 152
Sexual Exploitation Section 153(1)(a)
Assault Section 266
The investigation remains “active†in the sense the evidence seized by police will under go a forensic examination. Investigators are anticipating the forensics results will support the current charges in addition to possibly reveal evidence that will result in additional charges relevant to the use of a computer during those offences.
The male was held for a bail hearing.
