SEVERAL GUARD RAILS DAMAGED ON HWY. 26 – VEHICLE FAILED TO REMAIN

(MUNICIPALITY OF MEAFORD, ON) – On Thursday, October 23, 2014, at approximately 3:14 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was advised of several guard rails that had been damaged on Hwy. 26 near Christie Beach Road, in the Municipality of Meaford, causing a hazardous condition for other motorists.

Police arrived and found that a total of 23 guard rail posts had been broken off on the south shoulder of Hwy. 26 as a result of a vehicle colliding with the posts. The suspect vehicle, believed to be a black Toyota pick-up truck, failed to remain at the scene; and continued eastbound on Hwy. 26 towards Thornbury. The fleeing vehicle will have extensive damage to the front and passenger sides, as well as the passenger side mirror and taillight.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) was notified of the damage.

Blue Mountains OPP is assisting with the investigation.
