(LEAMINGTON, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently at the scene of a single vehicle collision east of Leamington which has closed the road and sent one person to hospital.
The crash occurred just after 1:00 am on Essex County Road 34 between Road 21 and Essex County Road 37 near Kopegaron Woods Conservation Area. The vehicle involved, was travelling westbound on Essex County Road 34 when, for reasons unknown at this time, it left the roadway and struck the Kopegaron Woods sign on the south side of the road.
Leamington Fire Service, as well as Essex County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene to assist. The lone occupant was taken to Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are currently on scene and will remain so for the next several hours to investigate.
Essex County Road 34 between Road 21 and Essex County Road 37 will remain closed while investigators are on scene.
