(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday August 24, 2013 around 11 p.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a serious two vehicle crash on Hwy 23 south of Line 84 (south of Listowel).
Investigation revealed that a Volkswagen Rotan van was travelling south bound in the south bound lane on Hwy 23, when a north bound Ford Ranger pickup truck travelling in the north bound lane crossed over the centre line entering onto the path of the Volkswagen. This resulted in a collision between the vehicles.
The Ford ended up on its side trapping the driver, while the Volkswagen remained upright. The trapped driver of the Ford, a 40 year old male from the Municipality of North Perth, was extricated from his vehicle by the North Perth Fire Department. He was transported to the Listowel Memorial Hospital where he was stabilized before being flown by air ambulance to London Victoria Hospital. He currently remains at the London Vic Hospital trauma unit in stable condition. The 25 year old female driver of the Volkswagen, a Municipality of North Perth resident sustained non-life threatening injuries for which she received treatment at the Listowel Memorial Hospital.
The OPP Western Region Traffic Collision Investigation Unit attended and commenced its investigation into the collision. Traffic on Hwy 23 was diverted around the scene until 3 a.m. Sunday August 25th, allowing for a safe investigation into the cause of the crash and removal of the vehicles. Investigation into this collision is continuing.
