Serious Collision – One Airlifted To Hospital – HWY 12 Closed

(TAY TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Tay Fire and Simcoe County Paramedics responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on August 23, 2015 at 1:18 p.m. at the intersection of Old Fort Road and Highway 12 in Tay Township.

Preliminary investigation indicates that an eastbound Honda motor vehicle and a westbound Kia SUV motor vehicle were involved in a collision. The male driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The services of Ornge have been requested to transport the male to a Toronto area hospital for further care. The female driver of the Kia motor vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Attending officers are being assisted in the investigation by members of the OPP Central Region Technical Traffic Investigations Unit (TTCI).

The intersection at Old Fort Road and Highway 12 will remain closed for several hours.

The investigation into the cause of the collision in continuing and no names will be released at this time.
