Serious Collision On 86 – Good Samaritan Pulls Victim From Wreckage Before Vehicles Burst Into Flames – One Airlifted To London

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP) On June 6, 2016, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Mapleton Fire Rescue and Perth Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended a serious collision at the intersection of Wellington Road 86 and Perth 124, Mapleton Township, involving a tractor trailer and a 2014 Mazda.

The female driver of the Mazda was removed from the vehicle by a passerby, prior to both vehicles becoming engulfed in flames, and was taken to a local hospital. Due to the seriousness of her injuries she was subsequently air lifted to a London hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. The names of those involved will be released upon the next of kin being notified.

West Region OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended the scene and are investigating. The roadway sustained significant damage due to the accident and repairs will be needed prior to the intersection being re-opened.
