Serious Collision – Constantinus DEDECKERE – Criminal Negligence

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – A 72-year-old St. Thomas woman was taken to hospital in critical condition on July 24th, 2015 around 12:00 p.m. after colliding with debris from a hydro support pole that had been knocked onto the roadway by vehicle that had just collided with the pole.

The collision occurred on Fairview Rd., near Sparta Line just south of the City of St. Thomas in Central Elgin.

The police investigation revealed that a grey 2011 Chevy Malibu, being driven by a 58-year-old Central Elgin man was travelling south on Fairview Rd. at a high rate of speed. The Malibu travelled off the roadway and into the west ditch striking a hydro pole. The hydro pole and wires fell onto the roadway where they were struck by a second vehicle, a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe being driven by a 72-year-old St. Thomas woman.

The 72-year-old St. Thomas woman was transported to hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Malibu, the 58-year-old Central Elgin man suffered only minor injuries.

Police arrested and have charged the driver of the Malibu, Constantinus DEDECKERE with;

Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm under the Criminal Code of Canada.

As a result of the collision several areas in Central Elgin experienced power outages.
