SELECTIVE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM (STEP)

On Wednesday August 6th and Thursday August 7th officers from Waterloo Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, Peel Regional Police, Toronto Police, Guelph Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Environment and Canada Border Services all worked together on a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement initiative at the Kitchener Auditorium. As a result of the initiative 185 Commercial Vehicles received Level 1 CVSA Inspections resulting in 93 of the vehicles being taken out of service, 153 charges laid, 4 Finance charges(3 cigarettes, 1 fuel) 4 Environment charges and 2 arrests by Canada Border Services. Some of the most common defects found were defective brakes, insecure loads, improper tires and no annual inspections. Waterloo Regional Police would like to thank all the other services that assisted over the last 2 days to help keep the roads in our Region safe.
