Saugeen Shores Police Press Releases 31Aug – 06Sept2015

31 August Police received a complaint of mischief to a window. A residence on Breadalbane Street in Southampton was damaged, possibly from a pellet from an air gun. The incident is still under investigation.

At 2:50pm, police received a report of a suspicious person in the area of Catherine and Goderich Streets. The young male was on a skate board, dressed in army fatigues and carrying a rifle. From the description received it is believed that the rifle was a paint gun. The area was searched but with negative results.

01 September

Two bicycles were stolen from a residence on Morpeth Street in Southampton. The bikes were taken overnight from a rear yard. Missing are a Giant mountain bike (orange and black) and a Schwinn mountain bike (silver and blue).

Overnight an unlocked vehicle was entered on Grosvenor Street and a Lenovo lap top was stolen. The victim also lost her passport which was inside the lap top case.

02 September

A 2015 Chevrolet pick-up truck was damaged while parked on Biener Drive. The vehicle was scratched in numerous locations.

Police received a complaint of an assault that occurred in front of the town offices in Port Elgin. A male from Saugeen Shores was arrested as a result of the complaint. The matter was subsequently dealt with by way of a warning.

At 6:00pm, police attended a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Green and Waterloo Streets. There were no injuries. One of the drivers was charged with Fail to Yield contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

03 September

A vehicle on Bricker Street was damaged overnight. The 2007 Mazda was scratched along the driver’s side of the vehicle.

At 12:50pm, a vehicle was damaged in the McDonald’s parking lot on Goderich Street. The complainant parked the vehicle, a 2010 Dodge Caravan and when she returned found damage to the rear passenger corner. The other vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

04 September

Police received a complaint from a resident on Elgin Street that two young males were observed in her backyard at 5:00am. Police attended but were unable to locate anyone matching the description.

05 September

At 3:00am, police were dispatched to an assault on Madwayosh Street in Southampton. Investigation resulted in numerous charges. A male, age 20 was charged with assault and fail to comply with an undertaking. A female, age 20, was charged with assault, assault with a weapon and fail to comply with a recognizance to keep the peace. Another female, age 29, was charged with assault. Some of the injuries from the incident required hospital treatment.

At 6:00pm, a male exiting a vehicle with a can of beer was charged under the Liquor Licence Act. Twenty seven cans of beer were also seized from the vehicle.

06 September

At 3:00am, police stopped a vehicle that was being driven erratically on Bricker Street in Port Elgin. The driver was found to have been drinking and subsequently failed a roadside screening test. He was arrested and taken in for breath tests. A male, age 22 from Cargill was charged with Driving with Over the Legal Limit. His vehicle was impounded for 90 days. He was also charged with Unnecessary Noise contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

At 11:00am, police attended a motor vehicle accident on Goderich Street at Peirson Avenue. There were no injuries. A driver was charged with Change Lane Not in Safety, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

At 2:30pm, police attended a four vehicle accident on Goderich Street at Ivings Drive. All vehicles were southbound. The brakes failed on the last vehicle which then rear ended the vehicle in front. This caused a chain reaction resulting in four damaged vehicles. Numerous persons were taken to hospital but no serious injuries.

Police received a report of a fail to remain accident. At approximately 5:00pm, a pick-up truck attempting to pull into a parking spot at the Port Elgin beach struck and damaged another vehicle. The driver exited and looked at the damage. He then appeared to leave a note but subsequently removed the note and drove away. The suspect vehicle was later located and the driver was spoken to and cautioned for fail to remain.
