Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 29Feb – 06Mar2016

Media Release – 29 February 2016 – 6 March 2016

29 Feb 2016,

8:59 am, a person on Falconer St reported he believed gas had been siphoned from his vehicle overnight.

9:00 am, Saugeen Shores Police did a DARE presentation at GC Huston Public School.

1:11 pm police are investigating an assault that is reported to have occurred between two males at a residence where one was doing some renovation work.

4:14 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Green and Waterloo St. A vehicle west on Green St was struck by another vehicle north on Waterloo St that did not stop at the stop sign. No injuries, the offending driver was charged.

6:12 pm police responded to a dry docked boat lying on its side at the Port Elgin Harbour. It appears the heavy winds blew the boat off its stand.

8:43 pm, a vehicle struck a deer on North Rankin St by Chippewa Golf Course. This is the third vehicle vs deer collision in this vicinity between 19 – 29 Feb.

9:48 pm, police responded to a suspicious person call in Port Elgin. A male party who had been drinking was standing at the front door ringing the door-bell but left when the door was answered. The male was located and it appears he had been drinking and was trying to get in the wrong home.

9:56 pm police received a call of a missing person; a 14 year old had climbed out a window and left a residence in Southampton. The girl was located at 10:40 am the next day.

01 March 2016,

7:29 pm police attended to a Port Elgin apartment looking for a missing youth. As a result of the visit three adult males and one female young offender were charged with possession of 15 grams of cannabis resin. The young offender was also charged with breaching a YCJA disposition and breaching an undertaking.

4 March 2016,

9:17 am police received a report of a possible fraud to an online account. A person received an email asking if he had authorized a charge to his PayPal account. If he did not he was directed to click on a link. It appears this person is not out any money. If you get an email from an unknown source or one containing a link or file to click on just simply delete the email. Sometimes the culprit is trying to convince you that you need to provide your log in information to them for verification purposes. This will just provide the person with your username and password. Again just delete the email. Sometimes the file that you click on downloads a virus or malware onto your computer. If in doubt delete it.

1:48 pm, police responded to a break and enter complaint in Port Elgin to a private residence. The door appeared to have been pried open but it does not appear anything was taken.

4:12 pm, police received a report of an erratic driver in Port Elgin. The complainant had observed the person drive in a dangerous manner and confronted the person when they stopped at a store. Police investigated and charged a 71 year old Saugeen Shores male with Dangerous Driving.

6:48 pm, police conducted RIDE in Saugeen Shores, 243 vehicles were checked with 7 Highway Traffic Warnings given.

5 March 2016,

12:23 pm police conducted RIDE on the snowmobile trail, no infractions.

6 March 2016,

6:29 am police responded to a suspicious person on Green St banging on the door of a home, damaging the door. Police attended and found a very intoxicated man wearing one shoe insisting this was his place. It wasn’t, he was several blocks away. He was arrested for public intoxication and spent the night in jail and will pay for damages.
