Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 04July – 10July12016

July 4, 2016

In the morning, traffic tickets were issued for Disobey Stop Sign and two charges for Failing to Have an Insurance Card.

At 4:30pm police received a report of a minor motor vehicle collision on Joseph Street.

At 8:07pm police attended a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Bruce Road 33 and the Bruce Saugeen Townline. There were minor damages and no injuries. A driver was charged with Following too Close under the Highway Traffic Act.

At 9:30pm police attended a residence on Provincial Street in response to a suspicious person complaint. The person was not located and the incident is still under investigation.

July 5, 2016

A driver on Goderich Street was charged for Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit.

At 6:17am, police assisted EMS with a patient on Waterloo Street.

In the morning, tickets were issued for Disobey Stop Sign and Failing to Have an Insurance Card.

Police attended a mischief complaint on Joseph Street. The rear window of a vehicle was broken by a beer bottle.

A CCM 6 speed bicycle, grey in colour was stolen from outside of Saugeen District Secondary School.

At 1:30pm, police were requested to check on the well-being of a person at a business on Goderich Street. The person attempted to mislead police by giving a false name. She was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant from Waterloo. When searched she was found in possession of controlled substances. The female, age 33, of no fixed address, was charged with Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest and 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was turned over to the Waterloo Regional Police Service.

In the evening, police officers participated in a Mock Emergency boating accident that was conducted at the Port Elgin beach.

At 10:00pm, police arrested a male, age 24, from Clifford, for Failing to comply with an undertaking. He had been consuming alcohol in contravention of his conditions. He was held in custody for a Show Cause hearing.

July 6, 2016

At 9:50am, police attended a motorcycle accident on Stevens Street in Port Elgin. The driver lost control of the motorcycle. There were minor injuries and damage and the driver was able to proceed on his way.

At 4:00pm, police attended to a dispute. Investigation revealed mischief to property and threats. A male, age 43, from Chatsworth is wanted.

Police were called to a disturbance at the Laundromat in Southampton. A male, age 25, from Southampton was arrested and charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with Probation.

July 7, 2016

A cell phone was reported lost in the area of the Port Elgin boat launch. The phone is a black Samsung Galaxy.

A MF One 2013 red scooter was found at the north end of Goderich Street in Port Elgin.

Police received a report of a fraud. The victim applied for a Mystery Shopper job. She was sent a cheque with instructions to deposit the funds in her account and withdraw a portion and deposit it into a specific account. The remainder of the funds were to be her payment. After the cheque was deposited it was returned as fraudulent.

At 3:30pm, police attended a residential break and enter on Wellington Street. The entry occurred during the day. The house may have been entered while the residents were in the back yard. Approximately $4000 in jewelry was stolen. Stolen items included a gold bracelet, ruby ring, gold wedding band and a gold diamond ring.

July 8, 2016

Police attended a motor vehicle accident on Highway 21 at Concession 6. A north bound vehicle was stopping for the traffic light when it was rear ended by another north bound vehicle. A charged was laid for Following too Closely under the Highway Traffic Act.

At 11:17am, police attended a residential break and enter on Creekwood Drive. The entry is believed to have occurred on July 7th during the day. Approximately $16000 in jewelry was stolen. The stolen items included a Rolex watch, gold and diamond rings, necklaces and ear rings.

Police received a report of a fail to remain accident that occurred in Ralph’s Parking lot. A Pontiac Grand Prix was struck by a small black SUV which failed to remain at the scene.

Police attended a motor vehicle accident at 11:00pm on Concession 2. A vehicle travelling eastbound struck a cow on the road. The vehicle suffered major damages but the driver was uninjured.

July 9, 2016

At 1:00am, police investigated an assault. A male, age 51 from Saugeen Shores was charged with assault.

A vehicle on Mill Creek Road was entered overnight and cash and a television stolen.

At 4:40pm, police attended a motor vehicle accident on Saugeen Street. A vehicle driving on Saugeen Street left the road and struck a tree. The driver attended the hospital with minor injuries.

At 4:50pm, police responded to a boating accident at the mouth of the Saugeen River. A man operating a Seadoo lost control and was thrown from the watercraft. He was rescued from the water by other boaters. The man was treated by EMS and then taken to hospital with minor injuries. Charges are being considered by police.

July 10, 2016

At 10:17am, emergency services attended at another marine incident. Two kayakers in the lake off of Chantry View Drive were in distress. Their kayaks turned over in the waves. They were assisted by two men who witnessed the incident and returned to shore safely.
