Robert DeJong Charged – Impaired

(Central Huron, ON) On June 12, 2009 at approximately 2:00 am Huron OPP officers set up a RIDE checkpoint on Huron Road in Central Huron when they observed a speeding vehicle coming from Goderich eastbound towards the RIDE program. Once the vehicle observed the emergency lights at the checkpoint, the driver braked hard and turned south into a private residence.

Officers located the vehicle parked behind a residence with the lights on but the engine off. Upon approaching the vehicle, a lone male was located in the vehicle sitting in the passenger seat. He appeared to be sleeping. The male denied driving.

The male was arrested for Impaired Care and Control and was taken to the Huron Detachment where he met with a qualified Breathalyzer Technician and provided two samples of his breath. The results confirmed that the male had over two times above the legal limit of alcohol in his system while in Care and Control of the motor vehicle. Robert DeJong (42) of Huron East will be returning to Goderich Court on August 10, 2009 to answer to one count of Impaired Care and Control.
