RIDE SPOTCHECK RESULTS IN DRUG SEIZURE

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Friday September 20 2013 at 1:20 am, an officer from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a RIDE spot check on Highway 11/17 in the City of Thunder Bay. A vehicle approached and upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odour of Marihuana emitting from the vehicle and then observed Marihuana within the vehicle.

Subsequently the occupants were arrested and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Two of the occupants were escorted to the police cruiser. As the third occupant was being escorted, he was found to have a bag containing 8 grams of cocaine in his mouth, as well as 15 Morphine pills. The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 76 grams of Marihuana, 31 Ritalin pills, a further 35 grams of cocaine and cash in excess of $2400.

Michael O’GORMAN, 33 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (x 3) and Possession of Marihuana contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Ashley HIGGINS, 25 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Possession of Marihuana contrary to the CDSA and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code.

Both were held for a video court appearance.

Steve KELLY, 37 years of age, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Possession of Marihuana contrary to the CDSA.

He was released from custody and is to appear in Provincial Court on December 3 2013 to answer to the charge
