(CALEDON, ON) – During the week of November 9th to November 16th, officers from the R.I.D.E. (Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere) Team and Patrol Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted 26 R.I.D.E. spot checks at various locations within the Town of Caledon.
Charges and Suspensions:
– 27 Approved Screening Device Tests (Drivers who consumed alcohol but breath samples were less than 50 mgs)
– 4 – Three-Day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspensions
– 7 Drug Possession Warnings
– 1 Drug Arrest
– 1 Over 80 arrest from the R.I.D.E. program
– 1 Over 80 arrest from Platoon traffic stop
Impaired/Over 80/Refuse or Fail to Provide Sample Arrests made during the above-mentioned week:
– On November 12th, 2014 at 1:00 am officers on patrol observed a vehicle weaving over the centre line on King Street east of Airport Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officers determined that she had been drinking and a Roadside Screening Device Test was completed which resulted in a fail. Melinda CRAMB, 37, from Caledon was arrested and charged with Over 80.
– On November 15th, 2014 at 10:42 pm, officers conducting a R.I.D.E. spot check on Patterson Side Road. After speaking with the driver, police determined that she had been drinking and a Roadside Screening Device Test resulted in a fail. Shirley HAVELAS, 70, from Caledon was arrested and charged with Over 80.
Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the OPP are actively engaged in conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks to reduce the amount of impaired driving.
