(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged three individuals with criminal impaired driving offences over the weekend. In addition, four individuals were issued drivers licence suspensions and a total of six drivers were charged with Distracted Driving.
On August 30, 2014 at 9:12 pm, officers were notified of an erratic driver travelling in the area of Kings Highway in Fort Frances, ON. Officers patrolling to look for the vehicle first observed the 1996 Buick Regal in the area of Mowat Avenue, Fort Frances, ON. As officers turned to pull the vehicle over, the driver pulled away and drove erratically onto Church Street where officers stopped the car after using both lights and sirens to get the driver’s attention. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver, 34 year old Robert LOGAN of Calgary, AB was texting with a hand held devices in each hand. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and charged with Over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code. He was also charged with Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content Above Zero and Drive with Hand Held Communication Device. The vehicle was towed and seized for seven days and he is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
On August 30, 2014 at 2:31 am, officers stopped a 2010 black Ford Focus after observing driving habits consistent with impaired driving. 37 year old Roseanne KAVANAUGH of Northwest Angle 37 First Nation was charged with Over 80 mgs after she failed the roadside screening device and subsequent Intoxilyzer breath tests. Her vehicle was towed and her first court appearance will be October 6, 2014.
On August 31, 2014 at 10:01 am, police were notified of a male asleep inside a vehicle located on the 1000 block of Second Street East in Fort Frances, ON. The caller was concerned that the male may be experiencing a medical emergency. When police arrived, they located 52 year old Kenneth BOMBAY under the influence of alcohol and passed out on the steering wheel. He was arrested for Having Care and Control of a motor vehicle and will be appearing before Fort Frances court on October 6, 2014.
On August 30, 2014, officers conducting marine patrol stopped a vessel in Sand Bay for an equipment safety check. The operator, a 36 year old Fort Frances male was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He registered a “warn†on the roadside screening device and was issued a 3 day suspension.
On August 30, 2014, a 19 year old male driver was stopped on Third Street West in Fort Frances, ON. He was charged with being a Novice Driver Having a Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero and issued a 3 day driver’s licence suspension after registering a “warn†on a roadside screening device.
A 48 year old male driver from Deer Lake, ON was stopped by police on Highway 11 in Rainy River, ON and issued with a 3 day driver’s licence suspension.
A 22 year old female driver from Emo, ON was stopped by police on Highway 11 in Emo, ON and issued with a 3 day driver’s licence suspension.
The OPP reminds motorists that operating a vehicle or vessel under the influence of any amount of alcohol is dangerous and jeopardizes your own safety as well as the safety of others.
