(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – A male driver is without his licence and vehicle after he was observed travelling in excess of three times the posted speed limit through Thorndale on Monday morning.
On June 30, 2014 Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on King Street in the Municipality of Thames Centre following up on a traffic complaint when police observed a possible subject vehicle approaching at an extremely high rate of speed. It was determined the vehicle was travelling over 150 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the driver failed to stop for police. A short distance further, the driver fled on foot and entered a commercial building where the officer successfully apprehended the suspect.
As a result of the investigation, police have charged Rick MILLER, age 30 of London, ON with:
Race a Motor Vehicle, under the Highway Traffic Act
Fail to Stop for Police, under the Highway Traffic Act
Drive Motor Vehicle, No Current Validated Permit, under the Highway Traffic Act
The driver was released by way of a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom August 18, 2014 to speak to the charges. His licence was suspended and vehicle impounded for seven days under the Stunt Drive Legislation.
