(EXETER, ON) – A 37-year-old driver from Exeter is facing criminal code charges of “Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams” and “Fail to Comply with Recognizance” charges following a traffic stop that took place yesterday afternoon. At approximately 2:20 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information pertaining to a possible impaired driver. A few minutes later a Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect driver travelling southbound on William Street. The officer followed the suspect vehicle, a black Volvo sedan, a short distance to Sanders Street East where a traffic stop was initiated.
While speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both samples registered over the legal limit. Also during the course of the investigation police learned the driver was breaching an alcohol related condition of his court release.
As a result, 37- year-old Michael COOLMAN from Exeter has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol & Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He has been released from custody with an upcoming court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on January 28, 2016. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
