Repeat Offender Caught Drinking And Driving In Vanastra While On Test Drive

(HURON EAST, ON) – A 24-year-old male driver from Huron East has been charged with several Highway Traffic Act offences & Criminal Code offences after he was stopped test driving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) this past weekend. At approximately 2:20 a.m. on January 30, 2016 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were patrolling in Vanastra when they spotted an ATV travelling westbound on 7th Avenue. Officers pulled up alongside the helmetless driver and pulled him over.

The driver stated he had been working on the machine and was just taking it out for a quick test drive. Officers pointed out to the driver that he wasn’t wearing a helmet and the machine wasn’t properly plated. Upon speaking with the driver police also noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was provided and the driver registered a quantity of alcohol above zero which is a violation for a novice driver.

Further investigation revealed the driver held a suspended driver’s licence and the ATV was uninsured. In addition, police learned the driver was currently serving a probation sentence with a condition to keep the peace and be of good behavior.

As a result, Huron OPP have charged 24-year-old Joey BOTELHO from Huron East, with the following offences:

Breach of Recognizance

Breach of Probation Order (4) Counts

Drive While Under Suspension

Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero

Off Road Vehicle – No Number Plates

Off Road Vehicle – Not Properly Insured

Off Road Vehicle – Driver No Helmet

He will now have to attend the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on March 7, 2016 to answer to the charges.
