(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 35 calls for service on Monday August 17 including animal complaints, fraud attempts and thefts.
Theft
A wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on McLean Avenue in Arnprior overnight Sunday August 16-17. The investigation revealed the debit card in the wallet had been used by two male suspects at several convenience stores prior to the victim discovering the theft. Provincial Constable Walid Kandar is investigating. Another car on Seventh Avenue in Arnprior was entered and rummaged through but nothing was stolen.
A bike was stolen from outside a residence on Daniel Street N in Arnprior. The bike was stolen between 11am and 12pm Monday August 17. The bike is described as a silver mountain bike with black decals on the frame of flames and stripes. There are no suspects.
Fraud Attempt
An unknown caller attempted a fraud with a resident in Arnprior on Monday August 17. The fraudster attempted to convince the resident they were working with Revenue Canada and insisted they owed tax money and must pay immediately. A Renfrew resident reports someone used their identity to obtain phone contracts with several cell phone companies. Provincial Constable Kevin Rebertz is investigating.
Pets Left in Hot Vehicles
OPP officers responded to two separate complaints about dogs being left in hot vehicles on Monday August 17 when the temperature was 31. At 4:38pm SPCA and OPP officers attended the Wal-Mart parking lot about an animal in distress in a hot vehicle. The owner was located and warned for the offence of cruelty to an animal.
Officers returned to the Wal-Mart parking lot at 5:53 pm after another report of a dog locked in a vehicle. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived but a licence plate number was given to police for follow up. Police remind pet owners to leave their animals at home on hot days, or shop where businesses have outdoor kennels available for use.
Break and Enter
A business on Renfrew Avenue W was entered overnight on August 16-17. Wirecraft Manufacturing Inc. reported the break in when it was discovered someone entered through the roof. A set of keys was stolen and some physical evidence at the scene was gathered. Provincial Constable Dallas McLeod is investigating.
Domestic Dispute
Police investigated one domestic dispute on Monday August 17. No charges were laid, but several guns were seized as no one in the home possessed a possession acquisition licence (PAL).
