Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 204 calls for service during the previous week.

Domestic Disputes

Officers investigated 12 domestic disputes during the past week. No charges were laid as no criminal offences occurred.

Thefts

Sometime between June 1 and 5 unknown persons entered an unlocked porch at a residence on MacDonald St S in Arnprior. They stole a TV, Xbox live, a guitar and 30 Xbox games. Provincial Constable Tamara Dube is investigating.

A 14-year-old youth returned stolen property to a store after her mother located the stolen property. On June 6 OPP were contacted by the parent wanting an officer to speak to the youth. The stolen property was returned to the store and the youth was warned for stealing and banned from attending the store for 1 year. A/Sgt Cory Briscoe investigated.

On June 7 an Ottawa Senators ball cap was stolen from Dahl’s Laundromat in Renfrew. The owner had started a load of laundry, including the ball cap and left. When he returned a short time later the ball cap was missing from the laundry. Provincial Constable Mark Yarmel is investigating.

A BMX bike was stolen from downtown Arnprior on June 11 between 1 and 2 pm. The bike was left unlocked against a light pole on Edward St. The bike is described as an Encore, black BMX style bike with a black and yellow front tire and white pedals.

Two young males were warned after stealing several items from a store in Renfrew. The 11 and 14-year-old were caught after returning home with the stolen merchandise and being confronted by parents. The youths returned the stolen property to the store, were warned by police and are going through extra judicial measures, a formal diversion program. Provincial Constable Mark O’Dacre investigated.

Impaired Drivers

On Thursday June 9 shortly after 5 pm OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Pucker St near Holmes Road in Admaston Bromley Township. The male driver had been drinking and suffered minor injuries. He was arrested and transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries. Further breath tests were conducted at the hospital. Bruce PIXLEY 51 of Admaston Bromley was charged with impaired care or control of a motor vehicle and over 80mgs care or control of a motor vehicle. He will appear in court in Renfrew on July 6. Provincial Constable Chris Triemstra led the investigation.

On Saturday June 11 at approx. 1:27 am Provincial Constable Chris Colton stopped a vehicle on Lisgar Ave in Renfrew for a traffic infraction. The male driver had been drinking and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests Jesse LEMKE 22 of Cobden was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 6.

On Saturday June 11 at 10:36 pm OPP officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Burnstown Road in McNab Braeside Township. The vehicle was travelling eastbound when it left the roadway and entered the westbound ditch. The male driver had been drinking and was arrested. Following breath tests at the detachment Steven WALTERS 25 of Renfrew was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He will appear in court in Renfrew on July 6. Provincial Constable Jean-Philippe St.-Cyr led the investigation.

Mischief

Several reports of mischief and vandalism were reported to the OPP during the past week. Reports included slashed vehicle tire on Wilfred Cres a car walked on parked on Elgin St and construction barriers knocked down on Elgin St in Arnprior. Officers also responded to a smashed mailbox on Mill Ridge Road, a chain cut on a gate at Mountain View Gold Course, an ATV driving on lawns on Museum Road all in McNab Braeside, a mailbox smashed on Mullins Road in Horton Township. Fraud Warning

Residents are being alerted that fraudsters may be calling them, pretending to represent The Canada Revenue Agency, or other government agency. They are claiming the person owes back taxes and they are going to be arrested or their homes will have a lien placed on them. They can be aggressive and rude. Please report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre.ca

Protect yourself don’t give personal or financial information to anyone over the phone. If someone claims you owe them money, check their claims before paying anything.
