(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision on Highway 17 west of Arnprior. As a result the highway is closed in both directions in the area. Detours are in place.
Preliminary investigation reveals the deceased male was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 17 at approximately 1:30pm. As he was approaching Campbell Drive in McNab/Braeside Township a Honda Civic travelling north on Campbell Drive attempted to cross the highway, striking the motorcycle. The male driver of the motorcycle died at the scene, while the male driver of the Honda was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The name of the other involved driver will not be released until a determination on charges is made.
Provincial Constable Raul Pasta Junior is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators. Highway 17 will be closed in both directions for several hours while police investigate. Westbound traffic is being detoured at Highway 29, through Arnprior to White Lake Rd, to Russett Dr, to Scheel Dr. Eastbound traffic is detoured at Scheel Dr, to Russett Dr, to White Lake Rd to Highway 17.
