(NORWICH, ON.) -The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a rash of break and enters and thefts in Norwich.
A resident of Main Street discovered a theft of a Stihl chainsaw from an unlocked barn on the property. The theft occurred sometime over the past two weeks.
On New Year’s Eve, a residence on Victoria Street was entered via an unlocked rear door. Items taken include, liquor, jewellery, frozen meat and loose change.
Sometime overnight on January 2, 2014, an unlocked vehicle on Clyde Street was entered and a wallet was stolen.
Also on Main Street, at approximately 12:00 a.m. on January 2, 2014, a resident was returning home from a walk when a suspect was seen entering her residence through an unlocked door. The suspect was scared off by the resident and fled on foot. It was discovered that a purse had been stolen.
Police were called and their investigation led them to arrest a 16 year old male from Norwich. The male who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminals Justice Act is charged with:
Break Enter and Theft – contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada
Trespassing at Night – contrary to The Trespass to Property Act.
The youth was released on a Promise to Appear and Officer in Charge Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Woodstock Courthouse on February 6, 2014.
