(CALEDON, ON) – On March 20th, 2015 shortly after midnight, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle driving erratically on Regional Road 50 in the Village of Bolton. The officers conducted a vehicle stop to check on the driver’s sobriety. Upon speaking with the male driver, the officers immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and further observed that he displayed other signs of impairment by alcohol. As a result of the officers’ observations, the driver was advised he was under arrest. The male became non-compliant with the officer’s demands and refused to exit the motor vehicle. The driver then assaulted one of the officers by striking him over the head. Fellow officers attended the area and the male driver continued to resist arrest, grabbing at another officer’s coat. The male was then removed from the vehicle and transported to Detachment.
Once at Detachment, the male refused to provide the officers with a sample of his breath for analysis.
As a result, Randall MAY, 51 of Ramara Township was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Resist Arrest, 2 counts of Assault Police, Driving While Disqualified and Fail to Comply with Recognizance Order.
The 90-day Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused was held in custody and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on this date.
