Two 26 year old Barrie men met at Essa Road and Veterans Drive in matching vehicles. The strangers had a brief conversation and proceeded to race along Essa Road. Two Barrie Police Officers were patrolling the area as the suspects raced by them. Both suspect vehicles speeds were over 100 kmh. One suspect passed an Ambulance using the center turning lane. Officers had to travel 1.5 kilometers to catch up to the suspects. As Officers had the vehicles stopped, other motorists and pedestrians stopped and applauded. Both suspects were charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and were issued a future court date. Also, both suspects had their driver’s licence suspended and vehicle impounded for seven days.
