BELLEVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING IN QUINTE WEST
(QUINTE WEST – ON) – On Friday March 13th, 2015, at approximately 3:30pm Quinte West OPP was out conducting traffic enforcement on Old Highway 2, west of Aikens Road.
Police observed a vehicle travelling westbound faster than the posted speed limit of 80km/hr. The vehicle registered a speed on the Police RADAR device at over 50 km/h over the posted speed limit.
The vehicle was stopped and driver identified as a 23 year old male from Belleville. He was charged with Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act. As a result of this charge, the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 7 days and the vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 7 days at the owner’s expense.
Speeding more than 50km/h over posted speed limit is considered stunt racing. Stunt driving was added to the Ontario Highway Traffic act in 2007. The law was intended to stop races and stunts from being performed on Ontario highways. The penalties for stunt driving also include a fine between $2,000 and $10,000 dollars, possible drivers’ license suspension up to 2 years and 7 demerit points.

TRENTON FEMALE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED
(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On Saturday March 14th, 2015, at approximately 2:30am Quinte West OPP conducted a traffic stop on Front Street in Trenton. Police determined that the female driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The female was arrested at the scene and transported to the nearest Police authority for a breath test where she refused to provide a suitable sample of her breath.
Sharmila SWAN, 40, of Trenton has been charged with:
Driving while her ability was Impaired by Alcohol
Refusing to provide a Breath Sample
The accused was released from custody on a Promise to Appear. SWAN will appear in court in April at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

INTOXICATED MAN CHARGED CRIMINALLY
(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On Sunday March 15th, 2015, Quinte West OPP attended an address in Roseland Acres to investigate an assault that occurred at a house party. When officers arrived on scene, the male suspect was being restrained on the road by witnesses at the scene. Police immediately placed the male under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place.
The male was belligerent and resistant with police throughout his arrest. The accused spat at and made several threats towards the arresting officer.
Johnathan HARFORD, 21, of Ameliasburgh has been charged with:
· Being Intoxicated in a Public Place
· Assault Peace Officer
· Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Harford was released on a Promise to Appear and OIC Undertaking. He will appear in court and answer to these charges in April at the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville. The investigation into the assault that occurred at the house party is continuing.

FAMILY DISPUTE IN FRANKFORD
(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On Sunday March 15th, 2015, at 9:30am Quinte West OPP was called to a family dispute on in Frankford. The complainant and his 20 year old son got into a heated argument over the purchasing of a new cell phone. The accused threatened the complainant with a knife and punched several holes in the wall of the home. When Police arrived on scene the accused was outside the residence where they affected the arrest. There were no injuries.
The accused was transported to Quinte West OPP detachment and held in custody pending a bail hearing. The 20 year old male from Tyendinaga Township was charged with:
· Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
· Adult mischief under $5000
· Adult possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
