Propane Technician Injured In House Explosion

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating an incident involving an explosion at a seasonal residence located on Normwood Drive, within the City of Kawartha Lakes.

On Friday, January 8, 2016 at approximately 10:05 p.m. officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to what was initially believed to be a structure fire.

Initial investigation indicated that the home owners, Keswick residents, had contacted a local gas company when they had detected an unusual odor. Both of the home owners and the propane technician were injured in the explosion and subsequently transported to local hospitals via ambulance.

Two of the involved parties were later transported to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.

The Fire Marshall’s Office was contacted and will be attending the scene. The Ministry of Labour has also been contacted. Police remain on scene as the investigation is ongoing.
