Project Sweeper – 33 People Charged

(Ottawa) – Yesterday, the Ottawa Police Street Crime Unit, with support from the Central Division Neighbourhood Unit, completed a four month investigation in the ByWard Market and Downtown Rideau area targeting street level drug trafficking, called Project Sweeper.

“During Project Sweeper, a total of 47 persons were identified to be charged with Trafficking-related and other offences; 33 have already been arrested and charged and officers are still seeking 14 individuals, said Ottawa Police Inspector Paul Johnston, Central District Investigations. “The Street Crime Unit also executed two search warrants in the 100 block of Stewart Street and 500 block of Bank Street during the investigation.”

“This Project is part of our response to community concerns about street level drug trafficking in the area,” said Insp. Johnston. “The Ottawa Police will continue to work with area residents and businesses to target street level drug trafficking and enhance public safety.”

Officers seized over $9,000 dollars in cash were during the Project; as well as:

94.6 grams of marihuana (street value $2,132.00)

247.3 grams powder cocaine (street value $24,730.00)

86.8 grams of crack cocaine (street value $17,360.00)

16 pills of MDMA (street value $320.00)

7 grams of Heroin (street value $2,800.00)

115 pills of Morphine (street value $2,300.00)

20 pills of Oxycodone (street value $400.00)

Total Drugs Seized: $50,042.00 (street value)
