(LAMBTON, ON) – On Saturday April 23rd, 2016 at approximately 5:00 p.m. the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report from a concerned citizen of an aggressive door to door salesperson in the area of Joe Street, Petrolia, Ontario.
Lambton OPP attended the area and obtained a description of the salesperson. A short time later, officers on patrol, located two male parties one of which matching the description provided. In speaking with the males, police determined that the males were identifying themselves to potential customers as representatives from a power company and were in the area selling water heaters. The investigation revealed that this was a scam and consequently 28 year old Kim MINSOO of North York, Ontario was charged with and served a summons for,
Unfair Practices under the Consumer Protection Act
The accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on June 10, 2016.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was illegally in the country at the time. As a result the Canada Border Service Agency was contacted and is assisting OPP in the investigation.
Penalty for an individual convicted of this offence is restitution and up to a $50,000 fine and two years’ imprisonment. A Corporation is subject to restitution and up to a $250,000 fine.
