(ELORA, ON) – On November 1, 2012 at 4:34pm, County of Wellington OPP attended the parking lot of the Bank of Montreal on Geddes Street Elora, in response to the report of what witnesses described as a pipe bomb.
The OPP Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) was contacted and attended the scene. As a safety precaution, a 100 meter perimeter around the object was set up, resulting in the evacuation of several residences. The EDU examined the object and determined it to be inoperable and empty, with no other purpose other than to resemble a pipe bomb, and may have been constructed for the purpose of a Halloween prop. All evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes at 10:00pm.
