(ESSEX ON) – The Essex Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) would like to warn the public about the potential of slippery road conditions that can occur with very little warning.
Between 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm tonight a stretch of Highway 401 between the Puce Rd (County Road 25) and Manning Road (County Road 19) became extremely slippery and ice covered resulting in 10 motor vehicle collisions. There were no serious injuries. Road crews were called out and the highway has been salted and at this time appears to be safe to travel.
With the onset of sub freezing temperatures, roads can freeze and become dangerous with very little notice. The public is reminded to slow down, and leave a safe distance between yourself and other vehicles.
