(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County Detachment responded to an incident after being contacted by a concerned citizen at a St Andrew Street, Port Dover, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at approximately 1:36 p.m., police were approached by a concerned citizen reporting they located what appeared to be a military ordnance.

Through investigation it was determined that the concerned citizen was in the process of renovating a residence when they located a suspected, World War 2 military ordnance. The ordnance was removed by the citizen and then transported to another address located on St Johns Road East.

Police attended the second address and with the assistance of the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit (EODU) from the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden, it was determined that the device was in fact a training unit.

“The Norfolk County OPP is urging everyone that locates a suspected military ordnance to contact police immediately. Public Safety in our main focus and if anyone comes into contact with what appears to be a military item, it is paramount that you do not touch it and leave the area immediately. In cases involving military ordnances it is very difficult to tell if the item has been deactivated or not and must be dealt with by experts,” comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County, OPP.
