Perth OPP Attend 40 Collisions In 24 Hours

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – During the nearly 24 hours that the snow storm was raging, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were kept busy responding to high number of traffic related calls for service.

Most calls involved motor vehicles leaving roadways, and entering into snow filled ditches. Other vehicles crashed into guardrails, fence posts, or trees. A number of collisions involved multiple vehicles, however due to the relative low speed the vehicles were travelling damage and injuries were relatively minor in nature.

A total of 40 collisions were attended to by the Perth County OPP during the period from Tuesday morning November 18th until Wednesday morning November 19th.

One snow plough collision was investigated, involving a Township plough that was struck by a pickup truck. Shortly before 2 p.m. the pickup truck lost control on Hwy 8 at Road 145 sliding into the plough as it was making a turn. No injuries were reported, but the pickup truck sustained moderate damage while the plough received minor damage.

Around 4:30 p.m. along Hwy. 7/8 west of Shakespeare, a tow truck was pulling a vehicle out of the ditch when it was hit by another vehicle. The tow truck driver who was working outside of his vehicle narrowly escaped injuries. Damage to all vehicles involved was minor to minimal in nature.

Motorists are reminded to “go slow, when you see snow”. During blowing snow and poor visibility conditions, “Don’t take chances”. Stay off the roads until conditions improve.
