(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) At 1 p.m. on Wednesday April 27, 2011 Perth County OPP officers will try their hand at riding Amish Buggies in Milverton.
The Perth County OPP in cooperation with some Amish members of the community will be getting together beside the Milverton Fire Hall on Mill St. West to discuss buggy safety and awareness.
Some of the topics to be touched on;
-The difficulty of controlling a buggy in busy traffic.
-Keeping the horse from being spooked as noisy and fast moving vehicles pass by.
-How to use your siren when close to a buggy.
-Why it is difficult for buggy drivers to use hand signals.
-Why left turn lanes create difficulties for buggy drivers.
Finally, officers will be riding buggies through Milverton allowing them to get a “hands-on†feeling of what it is like to control a horse and buggy in a build up area.
It is hoped that this exercise will foster a better understanding between Police and the Amish community as it pertains to safer buggy traffic on Perth County Roads.
