(PERTH COUNTY, ON) In the wrap up of the Canada Road Safety Week (16-24 May, 2011) these are the results in Perth County.
Officers found and arrested 1 drunk driver and located one other who registered in the “warn†range. In addition 12 motorists were charged with failing to yield to traffic while 6 were charged with careless driving. 214 speeding tickets were issued in the County while 1 driver is facing a charge under the racing legislation. 30 other persons were charged for not wearing their set belts and 23 received tickets for operating hand held communication devices.
“Our officers stopped 7590 vehicles at Perth County RIDE checks during the Canada Road Safety Week and I am encouraging my officers to continue this pro-active enforcement throughout the summer. The public can expect to see us out there conducting RIDE checks on a daily basis. The one impaired driver we charged is one too many. While the other 287 offenders, could have easily injured or killed other motorists, pedestrians or themselves during this week.†– Perth County OPP Inspector Steve Porter.
The Ontario Provincial Police encourages everyone to be vigilant in reporting bad or illegal driving actions immediately. The best way to reduce injury and death on our highways is for everyone to work together. Road safety is everyone’s business and it begins well before the vehicle is ever turned on.
