(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On June 14, 2015 at approximately 1:25 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to a stolen vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in London, Ontario. Information continued to be reported by the vehicle’s subscription based stolen vehicle tracking service. As a result, officers were able to locate the vehicle, a black GMC pickup truck, on Highway 401 near Dorchester Road.
Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop for police, and continued travelling southbound on Elgin Road. The stolen vehicle slow-down was activated by the subscription based service call centre, and the vehicle came to a stop on Imperial Road in Elgin County, Ontario. The two occupants were apprehended and arrested.
As a result of the investigation, 30 year old male Brandon SKALBA, from Windsor, Ontario, has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) with:
possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada CCC 354(1)(a)
driving while disqualified – court order CCC 259(4)
flight while pursued by peace officer CCC 249.1(1)
dangerous operation of a motor vehicle CCC 249(1)(a)
public mischief CCC 140(1)
fail to comply with probation order CCC 733.1(1) X3
driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (drug) CCC 253(1)(a)
He was further charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) with possession of a schedule I substance – other drugs, and possession of a schedule III substance.
The male was held in custody and will be appearing before the London courts on June 23, 2015, to answer to the charges.
The 30 year old female passenger, Sydney GELINAS, from Windsor, Ontario, has been charged under the CCC with:
possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada CCC 354(1)(a)
fail to comply with probation order CCC 733.1(1) X2
She was further charged under the CDSA with possession of a schedule I substance – other drugs, and possession of a schedule III substance.
The female was released by way of a recognizance on June 19, 2015, and is scheduled to appear before the London courts on June 26, 2015, to answer to the charges.
