(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service is proud to announce it is hosting the Canadian Police Canine Association (CPCA) Spring Seminar from April 28 to May 1, 2014 at the
Bonnenfant Centre in Dunrobin.
“Canines are not only valued members of our police services, but also important members of the families who care for them every day,†said Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau.
This will be the largest conference since the CPCA was founded in 1978. 100 participants representing 35 different agencies from across Canada and the United States will attend the conference.
Edmonton Police Service Constable Matt Williamson will be among those participants. Williamson’s police dog Quanto was killed while pursuing a suspect last year. The federal government then introduced Quanto’s Law to give harsher punishments to people who attack police dogs.
The CPCA is a non-profit, non-partisan association of peace officers who handle and train police dogs. It organizes police dog training, trials, and education. It brings police dog handlers and trainers from across North America together to form a network of people dedicated to the police dog.
