Assault Police

On Friday April 25th, 2014 at approximately 12:40 pm a 27 year old Barrie man was at the Barrie Courthouse located at 75 Mulcaster Street to answer to several criminal charges when he assaulted a Police Officer and three Special Constables in the courtroom.

The altercation took place in courtroom # 8 when the presiding Judge asked for the male to be removed from his courtroom due to his inattentiveness. The male became extremely angry, agitated and uncontrollable. In an attempt to gain control of the male and remove him from the courtroom one sworn Police Officer and three Special Constables were injured.

The officers were transported to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre to receive treatment.

Injuries consist of cuts, abrasions, a punch to the face, a push to the ground resulting in a knock to the head of a female Special Constable. One officer was also spit at in his mouth area.

The male was in court to answer to the following charges:

Assault a Peace Officer
Arson-Disregard for Human Life x2
Mischief Under &5000.00 x2
Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The above charges stem from an incident that occurred on Sunday April 20th, 2014.

The matter is currently being investigated by court officers. More information will be provided in a timely manner when it becomes available.
