(Ottawa, ON) – The Canada Road Safety Week was launched on May 15, 2015 and ended on March 18, 2015. The annual Canada Road Safety Week, focused on four main driving behaviours that puts all road users at risk. These are: driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs; fail to properly wear seatbelt; driving while distracted; and aggressive driving.
The Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested three motorists for alcohol related driving offences over the Victoria Day Long weekend.
Charged are:
Vladimir FOX, 59 of Ottawa
Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol.
Christian BRICES, 34 of Ottawa
Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol;
Obstruct Peace Officer;
Driver – fail to properly wear seatbelt; and
Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor.
David DAHMS, 27 of Ottawa
Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol.
In addition, numerous Provincial Offence Notices were issued during the campaign.
The following is a breakdown of the Provincial Offence charges issued during the campaign:
92 Charges – Speeding
25 Charges –Fail to properly wear seatbelt;
25 Charges – Distracted Driving;
5 Charges – Fail to Yield;
3 Charges – Careless Driving;
2 Charges – Driving while Suspended; and
1 Charge – Stunt racing.
Reminder
The OPP is asking that if you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired by alcohol or other drugs and intends on driving, strongly discourage them from driving and call 9-1-1 if they insist.
