OPP RESPOND TO SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION NEAR SHABAQUA

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at approximately 11:46 am, officers from the Thunder Bay and Upsala Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 17, approximately 12 kilometers west of Shabaqua. Shebandowan Fire Department and ambulance also responded to the scene.

The driver of a 2014 Hyundai SUV was westbound on Highway 17 when the vehicle went onto the shoulder of the road and struck the edge of an intersecting bush road causing the vehicle to go air borne. The vehicle came to rest upright in the west bound ditch. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.

The 82 year old male driver from Toronto was transported to hospital by air ambulance with non life threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
