(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a marine call on the French River at Recollet Falls in the French River Provincial Park on July 27 at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Investigation revealed that two adult males and a 10 year old child were in a canoe on the river. The males attempted to negotiate the quick moving water and the canoe capsized throwing all three males into the water.
The one adult and child whom were both wearing life jackets were pulled from the water by other persons in the area. The other male, who was not wearing a life jacket, has not located.
Attending units were West Parry Sound OPP, North East Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Sudbury Ambulance, Ornge Helicopter, Henvey Inlet First Nation Volunteer Fire and Britt Volunteer Fire, French River Park Warden and Sudbury Ministry of Natural Resources.
OPP completed a shoreline search and search of the water. The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit (USRU) is continuing to search for the missing man.
