(LEEDS, ON. ) – The bodies of two men reported missing to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Leeds Detachment on Friday evening were recovered Sunday evening from Big Rideau Lake near Portland, Ontario. The men were in a truck and were believed to be heading to Cow Island when they went missing. They were last seen by family members at approximately 8am Friday, March 10 and were reported missing when they failed to return home that evening.
The deceased men have been identified as Michael Carty age 72 and Harold Douglas (Doug) Good age 69 both of the Portland area. The OPP search was assisted by members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) and the OPP Helicopter. The Ontario Coroners Office is also involved in the investigation, and the Coroner has ordered post mortem examinations to be completed. The investigation into the deaths is continuing, but are not considered to be suspicious.
